Japanese Charts

It’s chart time again folks.  The Japanese Top Ten looks like this:

1. J-League Pro Soccer 5 (PS2); Sega, – 107K

2. Harvest Moon: The Island (DS); Marvelous Interactive – 80K

3. Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (DS); Square-Enix – 57K (1.08m)
4. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2); Capcom, – 49K (276K)

5. Wii Sports (WII); Nintendo – 48K (958K)

6. Wii Play (WII); Nintendo, – 35K (843K)

7. More Brain Age (DS); Nintendo, – 28K / 3.9m
8. New Super Mario Bros. (DS); Nintendo (27K) (4m)

9. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS); Nintendo 25K (85K)

10. Common Knowledge Training (DS), Nintendo, – 25K (1.2m)

It’s no surprise to see that J-League Pro Soccer 5 is straight in at number 1 – our Japanese pals love their footie games.  But with all of the hype and spin generated by both Sony and Microsoft it’s easy to forget just how much Nintendo dominate this market.  With 8 of the top 10 games being Nintendo system exclusives, Nintendo really do have a firm grip on Japan.  It will be interesting to see how more PS3 stock affects this situation, but it will take something amazing to catch the DS.
